An expensive Leggett & Platt electric bed broke after just 2 years and 9 months. The electric motor broke. Such poor quality. My mother, a disabled senior citizen, paid $1,525 for her Leggett & Platt electric adjustable bed base. The bed was well-cared for, and the electric motor was only used occasionally.Although Leggett & Platts electric beds have a 25 year limited warranty, the electric components are NOT covered for 25 years. We found out the hard way. We had to order a new electric motor from Leggett & Platt for $185 dollars. The new motor itself has a 1 year warranty.Luckily, I'm still strong enough to lift this bed up and install the new motor myself. This bed weighs about 175 pounds. Most people won't be able to do this repair themselves, and then they would have to pay for the new motor PLUS the additional cost of having a repairman to come out and install the new motor.If youre going to buy an L&P electric bed, make sure you understand the terms of their warranty. It can be very confusing. Know the difference between a full warranty and a limited warranty. In our case we had a 1-2-Lifetime Warranty. However, upon reading the fine print we found that the electric components were only covered for two years. The newer beds being sold today by L&P generally have a 1-3-25 limited warranty, but the electric components are only covered for the first three years.Consumers should also be aware that Leggett & Platt had a large recall in 2012 on some of their electric adjustable bed bases, due to the risk of the electric motor control board overheating and becoming a potential fire hazard. A very expensive electric bed, and yet very poor quality in my opinion. A product this expensive should last for decades rather than breaking before its three years old. I never write reviews but this has to be the worst service I've ever gotten from a company....the bolt the actuator is not long enough for the cotter pin to be inserted. Called, send pictures several time and 5 days later, no attempt was made to contact me. I was told they will only send the part but I have to figure out how to put it in...and it is not even certain if it is the bolt not long enough or the bracket is too far apart, they don't even care to find out....I am 72 and know nothing about these things. They expect to to pay for labors again for mistake of their making....or tuff cookie.....I bought an adjustable and not useable at all and they do not back it up.........I am going to file a legal complaint with the BBB and post my bad experience all over the internet. Do not buy from them.
I had terrible service from the customer service number when I called. Even the company that provided the warranty couldn't get them to help.
